DESCRIPTION:There will be a display of flags in the town centre to celebrate Easter.\nEaster is a very important Christian holiday that celebrates the belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the New Testament of the Bible, the event is said to have occurred three days after Jesus was crucified. The holiday concludes the ‘Passion of Christ’, a series of events and holidays that begins with Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and sacrifice, and ends with Holy Week.  This week includes Maundy Thursday as the celebration of Jesus’ Last Supper with his 12 Apostles, Good Friday, on which Jesus’ crucifixion is observed and Easter Sunday as the resurrection.\nAn egg is a symbol of new life. For Christians, Easter eggs are used as a symbol for the resurrection of Jesus.  Christians believe that, through his resurrection, Jesus overcame death and sin. This offers people the promise of eternal life if they follow his teachings.\nThe Bible makes no mention of a long-eared, short-tailed creature who delivers decorated eggs to well-behaved children on Easter Sunday; nevertheless, the Easter bunny has become a prominent symbol of Christianity’s most important holiday. The exact origins of this mythical mammal are unclear, but rabbits, known to be prolific procreators, are an ancient symbol of fertility and new life. The earliest evidence of a modern Easter Bunny dates back to the 1600s, when it was first mentioned in German writings as a rabbit, called ‘Oschter Haws’, or Easter hare, which was believed to lay a nest of colourful eggs for children who were well-behaved.\n
