We will restart our 'Mayflower 400 in Harleston' Lecture programme with a virtual walk through Rotherhithe in London, home to the Mayflower and her crew.  It was both the starting point and ending point for the Mayflower ship and her Master Christopher Jones.

The Mayflower story and Rotherhithe's role in that historic voyage are deeply intertwined. Rotherhithe has a long seafaring and ship building history and was the place where Christopher Jones, the captain and part owner of the ship, and many of the crew lived.  In July 1620 the Mayflower sailed from Rotherhithe to begin the epic journey.  After the arduous journey to America, a terrible winter, sickness and hardship the ship and surviving crew returned to Rotherhithe.  Both the Mayflower and Christopher Jones her ended their days in Rotherhithe.

Our virtual walk takes us to a pub where Master Jones is said to have hired his crew, another from where the settlers boarded the Mayflower, and even the burial grounds of Master Christopher Jones.  There is a church and school from the days of the Pilgrims and memorials built to commemorate those brave souls of the past.

Chris Green, Blue Badge Guide, will be our guide.  Chris created the official Mayflower guided walk of Rotherhithe through her company, Heritage and Arts for the Southwark Borough Council.  Heritage and Arts are endorsed by the national Mayflower 400 uk programme.  This virtual walk will follow the route of the official walk.

This is a FREE event but you must register:
