Guided Walk with Festival: Mayflower 400 in Harleston
Time and Location
About The Event
A family from Harleston were on board the Mayflower ship which sailed to America 400 years ago. They became involved in the very foundation of America as we know it today.
There are many buildings surviving today which would have been familiar to our Harleston Mayflower Pilgrims. Take a journey back in time to reveal what lies beneath the modern buildings and discover the Harleston of 1600. Watch as today’s buildings transform into their former selves. Find out why our pilgrims left Harleston and what life was like 400 years ago in the very spot where we stand today.
The ‘Mayflower 400 in Harleston’ walks are being held in conjunction with the 2020 exhibition about the ‘Mayflower Fullers of Harleston’ in the local museum. Our walks will included a special opening just for us.
This is a very special walk, showing the important role Harleston has played in the very creation of the world’s largest and most successful country.
This walks is run as part of the Harleston and Waveney Festival. The walk is free with a bucket collection. There are a series of guided walking tours around the town throughout the summer. All walks last about two hours.
