To commemorate the 400-year anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower to America, Leiden in Holland where the Pilgrims started their famous voyage the Mayflower 400 organisation will be launching its commemorations on Saturday 16 May.
A unique virtual tour of the city, incorporating all the key landmarks and stories around the Pilgrims' life in Leiden, will start at 3pm UK time (10am Eastern time in America). Over the next four hours viewers will have the chance to experience this beautiful city using computer animated reproductions to bring to life existing buildings and landmarks as they would have looked four hundred years ago when the separatists lived in the Netherlands prior to leaving for a new life. The guided tour will be hosted by an English speaking expert from the city and will be accompanied by the chance to ask questions during the event around the different historical landmarks you see during the event. You can watch this guided tour on the Mayflower 400 UK website here on Saturday, or watching it live on the Mayflower400uk Facebook page here or the Leiden 400 Facebook page here The Leiden Virtual Voyage will be the first in a series of guided tours around the places connected to the Mayflower story, told through the eyes of the people who live and breath the stories of the Pilgrims.
